From now until the end of November, the Boulder History Museum will be hosting an interesting
exhibit that looks at the changing meanings and fashions surrounding women's handbags across the
ages.
With more than 50 purses from as far back as 1880, the exhibit provides visitors with a
chance to peer into the intriguing world of the handbag - which once was known as a pocketbook.
Visitors will be able to see examples of fine leatherwork and craftsmanship using a variety
of different materials, from cigarette packs to silk, beads and precious metals.
The handbags also give a sense of the prevailing values of the day, with stylish, elegant
accessories sitting next to utilitarian examples of function over form.
The museum is also hosting several programmes in addition to the display, including a talk on
the history of handbags and a purse party with local designers.
Those wishing to attend this event can book into a Boulder hotel for convenient
accommodations.
